Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC)
Tour Highlights
LIC is one of the largest integrated herd improvement organisations in the world. A dairy farmer owned co-operative, LIC has been providing services to farmers since 1909. Its services range from herd testing and milk analysis, to artificial breeding, animal health, farm advisory, herd recording, DNA analysis, farm automation and farm mapping systems. This is an opportunity to receive an overview of LIC and how it helps farmers achieve greater profitability through on-farm recording/management systems and higher performing animals.

Open Country Dairy Limited – Waharoa Site
Tour Highlights
Located next to the iconic Kaimai Hills which border the famous Waikato Plains, Open Country Dairy - Waharoa is supplied milk by 310 local dairy farms. This site has the capability to process 400 million litres of milk per annum producing some 70,000 tonne of products. Processing top quality milk from dairy farmers, Open Country provide a range of milk powders, milk proteins, milk fats and cheeses that are used in a variety of applications including food, beverage and nutritional applications. Open Country Dairy has two others site in New Zealand – one located in Invercargill and the other in Wanganui. Both these plants manufacture Milk Powders.

Visit Kaimai Cheese Company sitting proudly right in the heart of Waikato dairy country and next door to Open Country Dairy. You can see their entire cheese making process from behind large glass windows and read about the cheese manufacture process. Before leaving sample some cheese and/or purchase a piece of Kaimai cheese or gourmet items for later enjoyment.
